- Check the drive and control compatibility matrix every time. Compatibility isn't a memory test. It's a lookup.
- Add context to the PO. Instead of just a part number, write "for Line 3, Interroll Series 1700, installed 2019." That gives a support engineer or distributor a chance to flag a mismatch before anyone spends money.
Where this checklist doesn't apply
I'll be honest about the limits. This process is for replacement and retrofit orders—someone has an existing line and needs parts that fit it. If you're building a brand-new line with a systems integrator, their engineering review and your contract matter more than a purchasing checklist. And I'm not a design engineer. Anything involving load capacity, speed, safety, or new controls should go through qualified engineers before you order.
There's one more case where the list fails: when someone says "just repeat the last order." Rush jobs, small orders, Friday afternoon. That's exactly when skipping the documentation feels fine.
